How much does stump removal cost in Surrey?

The cost of stump removal depends on the size of the stump, how easy it is to access, how deep it needs to be ground, and whether there are multiple stumps to remove. Smaller stumps with good access are usually quicker and cheaper to deal with, while larger or awkwardly placed stumps may take longer. We’ll always give clear pricing before starting the work.

What is the difference between stump removal and stump grinding?

Stump grinding uses specialist machinery to grind the stump down below ground level. This is usually less disruptive than digging out the whole stump and root system. Full stump removal means physically removing the stump and roots, which can be more invasive and may not always be necessary. For most gardens, stump grinding is the most practical option.

Will stump grinding remove the roots as well?

Stump grinding removes the main visible stump and grinds it below ground level. It does not usually remove every root from the surrounding soil, but it normally stops the stump being an obstacle and allows the area to be levelled, replanted or landscaped. We can advise what is realistic depending on the stump and location.

Can you remove a stump close to a fence, wall or building?

Often, yes. Stumps close to fences, walls, sheds, patios or driveways need to be assessed carefully so the work can be done safely. Access and surrounding obstacles affect how close the grinder can get and how much of the stump can be removed.

Do you remove the waste after stump grinding?

Stump grinding creates woodchip and grindings. These can often be left to fill the hole or used as mulch elsewhere in the garden. If you would prefer the area cleared, let us know when enquiring so we can include this in the quote.

Can you remove more than one stump at the same visit?

Yes. If you have several stumps, it is usually more cost-effective to deal with them in one visit. Tell us roughly how many stumps you have, their sizes and where they are in the garden, and we’ll price the job clearly.

How long does stump grinding take?

Smaller stumps can often be ground down fairly quickly, while larger stumps, awkward access or multiple stumps will take longer. We’ll give you a realistic idea of time once we know the size, location and access.

Will stump grinding damage my garden?

Stump grinding is generally much less disruptive than digging out a stump by hand or with heavy machinery. There may be some disturbance around the stump area, but the aim is to keep mess and disruption to a minimum and leave the space tidy.
